“Psychedelic plant medicines have been the single most influential driver of positive change in my life to date. Using these substances responsibly has pushed me to mature, to be a kinder person, to embrace spirituality, and to enjoy life more overall. My outlook on life before psychedelics could have been characterized as nihilistic, devoid of meaning, and egocentric, but experiences that I’ve had while on psychedelics are directly responsible for shifting that perspective into a more positive light and gaining an appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us as well as an understanding and acceptance of the darkness that we should not ignore, both within ourselves and in the world as whole. Overall, plant medicines have made me a happier person, and for that I am eternally grateful. I believe they have the power to do the same for many people on Earth.” – Danny

“My experience with psychedelic plant medicines have brought me closer to my family, friends, community, and myself. For almost 20 years of use, there is much insight to be gained in every aspect of life. There is a striving to do good, do better, improve the efficiency of how I live my life. The inspiration from psychedelics brings to life whatever motivations that tend to stagnate.” – Keith

“I developed complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) after experiencing repeated trauma as a child….
“I developed complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) after experiencing repeated trauma as a child. I started therapy when I was 10-years old and continued weekly therapy throughout my life, with little effect.
When I moved to Seattle, my PTSD worsened, despite bi-weekly therapy sessions. Talk therapy wasn’t working. I was involved with a psychedelic trance collective at the time and was the only member who had never tried psychedelics. Many collective members spoke about how they expanded themselves through plants and how their outlook improved.
I decided to try a different type of professional therapy specific to PTSD. I started researching psychedelics and their part in PTSD treatment, e.g., “Acid Test”, by Tom Schroder. In between PTSD-therapy sessions, I would go out to the woods and take therapeutic doses of psilocybin (1-2 grams of psilocybe cyanescens mushrooms).
Psilocybin broke down many unhelpful perspectives, showed me how strong I am, and highlighted my connection to everyone and everything. It fast-tracked my healing in therapy and helped it “stick,” which had never happened before in 20+ years of therapy. I only did psychedelics a handful of times while undergoing PTSD treatment, but it shattered many destructive thought patterns.
I processed what I experienced for about a year. On top of healing from trauma, I realized I was unhappy with how we live on this planet and who I was, and dedicated my life to tearing down any emotional artifacts that prevented me from feeling fully connected to myself and the world. It was a wild ride, and the journey was NOT a direct route to instant happiness–it was a saga that made me the hero in my own story and gave me a strong sense of self. And like most adventures, I lost parts of myself, gained healthier perspectives, and attained a completion I thought I never would.” – Rachel B.

“I am a newcomer to psychedelic plant medicines. I have been a supporter of cannabis. I use cannabis products for pain management for my spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. I was diagnosed at a young age and was delayed in walking. I had interventions with splints and casts. I was in physical and occupational therapy throughout elementary school. I often experienced painful muscle spasms caused by the uncontrollable stiffening of my leg muscles. I am glad cannabis is legal in Washington because I can walk into a dispensary and have many options for pain management needs. This is a far better alternative to the Percocet, Oxycotin, and Valium that I was given for pain relief between the ages of 17 and 19.
Now in my late twenties, my only experience with psychedelics comes from using acid (LSD) and DMT. Both experiences were positive. The amounts I had were small and I still feel the vibrational calm from the DMT session two weeks ago. As someone who has benefited from plant medicine, I see no reason why possession of psychedelic plants should continue to face prosecution. In honor of everyone I have lost to substance abuse disorder, I gladly show my support for the decriminalization of entheogenic plants and community-based ceremony for healing.” – Dez C.

“I began microdosing psilocybin in late 2019 to ease my depression and it’s been a game-changer. My physician, working with a psychiatrist, had prescribed a variety of meds which didn’t help and/or gave me miserable side-effects. I felt like a guinea pig and over time, my depression was getting worse and worse. I began reading Michael Pollan’s book How To Change Your Mind and because I respect him so much, decided to give microdosing a try. It was like hitting a reset button! It pulled me right out of my weepy downward spiral and made me feel like a normal human being again. I’m grateful.” – Mary

“From middle school onward until 2014 I experienced anxiety, ADHD, and Major Depressive Disorder and several attempts at suicide. Taking ayahuasca was an experience I can’t accurately put into words, but it changed my life and made me eager to live life rather than end it. I haven’t had any suicidal episodes in many years now. While ayahuasca alone wasn’t a silver bullet to solving my psychiatric problems, it helped me realize there was a world where I didn’t dread the next day while hoarding my periods of mental lucidity. It was the ladder I needed to help climb out of the pit where medications and therapy failed. It helped me accept death without physically dying.
Whereas the efficacy of therapy or pharmaceuticals has been temporary, the psychiatric benefits from taking plant medicines has lasted long after the initial psychoactivity has faded away. It changes the underlying semantic meanings one creates in their brain, and that’s quite exceptional.” – Nathan C.

“Plant medicine came into my life sort of out of the blue, but it has been so meaningful to me over the past two years. I never knew how emotionally muted I was until I had my first psychedelic experience. To me, plant medicine is a way for me to move emotions and trauma through my body, out of the places where it can get stuck, and it’s part of my wellness toolbox.
I think plant medicine offers both a liberating / daunting amount of responsibility when it comes to self-medicating. Lot’s of people self-medicate in ways that are totally harmful to their self and their relationships. Whereas with plant medicine, its effects and synergistic qualities on the body are gentle and don’t form physical dependence. They are unique in that they help me to feel more connected with my emotions and with my emotional bonds. I have yet to find any other substances outside of entheogens that have this quality.” – Tatiana
